Solid-state thermoelectric devices are currently used in applications ranging from thermo-couple sensors to power generators in space missions, to portable air-conditioners and refrigerators. With the ever-rising demand throughout the world for energy consumption and CO 2 reduction, thermoelectric energy conversion has been receiving intensified attention as a potential candidate for waste-heat harvesting as well as for power generation from renewable sources. Efficient thermoelectric energy conversion critically depends on the performance of thermoelectric materials and devices. In this review, we discuss heat transfer in thermoelectric materials and devices, especially phonon engineering to reduce the lattice thermal conductivity of thermoelectric materials, which requires a fundamental understanding of nanoscale heat conduction physics.

Effect of conjugate heat transfer in designing thermoelectric beverage cooler

Peltier technology opens new opportunities for special applications. In the current project, this technology was applied to design and fabricate a portable thermoelectric beverage cooler and thermoelectric cup. The simulation and results of the experiment showed that the common beverage cooler is not a suitable design for ignoring the effect of natural convection in cooling. In our thermoel...

Heat collection and supply of interconnected netlike graphene/polyethyleneglycol composites for thermoelectric devices.

The key challenges in thermoelectric power conversion are creating a significant temperature difference and obtaining more heat energy through a thermoelectric device. Herein, graphene/polyethyleneglycol composites (G-PEGs) were proposed as a heat supply for thermoelectric devices. The G-PEGs not only afford a lot of conductive pathways for heat transfer but also act as highly thermally conduct...

Effective thermal conductivity in thermoelectric materials

Thermoelectric generators (TEGs) are solid state heat engines that generate electricity from a temperature gradient. Optimizing these devices for maximum power production can be difficult due to the many heat transport mechanisms occurring simultaneously within the TEG. In this paper, we develop a model for heat transport in thermoelectric materials in which an " effective thermal conductivity ...
